Yesterday, Friday, the elementary school celebrated Easter. K-6th grade came together in the gym to color Easter eggs. The big kids helped the little kids, and only a handful of eggs were cracked. We had enough eggs for everyone to color at least 2 eggs for their group.
After coloring the eggs, the kids split up into 5 groups for various Easter activities throughout the school. One activity was to find the Easter eggs that were hidden outside. They then hid the next group's eggs. Everyone had a chance to hide eggs as well as find their own.
Then next activity was games in the gym. I was in charge of running the games. We played the "Bunny Poop Scoop" relay. They took turns hopping down the gym to collect some "bunny poop," or little balls of paper, in a spoon. They had to race to fill up their bowl before the other team. If they dropped any "poop," they had to put it back on the spoon before they could continue. Some groups had an odd number, so I had to fill in on their team. I think they got a kick out of me hopping down the gym racing them.
The third activity was Easter Bingo. They got some yummy Easter candy when they won. :)
The fourth activity was a bunny mask craft. They used a paper plate for a face and made floppy bunny ears. I think they turned out pretty cute.
The last activity was cracking open a homemade Easter egg piñata. All last week Sarah and I helped our after school reading intervention kids make egg piñatas. We paper mached balloons, then painted them to look like Easter eggs. We filled them with Easter candy. Every group got a chance to break open their own piñata. Everyone went home with a little bag of candy and Easter eggs. Overall, I think the day went well and all the kids had a fun time celebrating Easter.
