Winter has struck in Nightmute. The temperature has dropped and the wind has picked up. Planes have been few and far between. All of the mail and what nots coming in on the planes have been delayed because the weather has been too bad for the planes to fly.
Last Sunday, January 12th, our heat decided to stop working. The pilot light was out, and when we woke up in the morning our house was about 40 degrees. We were freezing! I could see my breath inside the house. Our water stopped running because the pipes froze. Our water heater turned off and everything froze. We went to school to get tubs of water so we could flush and wash.

We used the oven to help heat the house. We turned it on and left it open all day. It helped keep the kitchen area warmer than 40. :)

We also found a space heater in the closet. That was my new best friend. I could finally feel my toes again! Yay! Our house slowly warmed back up. We cheered every time the temperature went up another 2 degrees.
We had a two hour delay on Monday, January 13th because the wind was blowing so hard. The wind was up to 50+ mph and the wind chill was about -53 degrees. The wind was blowing snow around so much that you couldn't see 10 feet in front of your face. By the time school started, the wind died down and all of my kiddos came to school.
