Salmon Fishing

Yesterday, Sarah, Emily (our new 4th grade teacher), and I went fishing with our friend Jimmie.  We went about 45 minutes up river.  The river wound so it seemed like we were so far away from the village, but we were actually only a few miles away.

The weather was beautiful; the sun was shining and we all got a bit sunburned.

Even though the weather was nice, the boat ride got a little chilly.  Sarah bundled up with her raincoat on our way up river to stay warm.

We met up with some other people fishing, so there was about 9 people at our spot on the river.  We fished off the shore and our boats.

I almost caught a fish, but it got away before I could get it up on shore.  It was huge! I was reeling it in, then the reel got caught and I couldn't pull it in anymore.  While we were trying to fix the reel, the fish jumped off the hook.  I was so close...

We had no luck with the fish.  We had a few nibbles, but the biggest things we caught were some logs on the bottom of the river.

It started to rain, so we began our ride back down river.  Luckily, the rain didn't last very long.  We stopped in the middle of the river to fish off the side of the boat.  It didn't take Jimmie long to get a bite.

Emily helped catch the fish in a net.  Since it was Emily's birthday, Jimmie let us have his fish for her birthday dinner.

Fresh salmon for dinner is quite delicious :)
